Study of reservoir sedimentation, impact assessment and development of catchment area treatment plan for Kodar Reservoir National Institute of Hydrology, Bhopal and Water Resource Department, Raipur, Chhattisgarh
The Objective: Reservoir sedimentation can reduce their storage capacity and reduce their useful operational life. The PDS sought to quantify sediment inputs to Kodar reservoir and to develop a catchment management plan to reduce sediment inflows and deposition. The study involved; Use of the SWAT model on the Kodar reservoir catchment to estimate erosion rates and sediment inflows to the reservoir; Remote sensing of reservoir water area and deducing volume lost by sedimentation; Use of the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) to estimate sediment production from various parts of the catchment; Development of a catchment management plan that could reduce sediment inflow to Kodar reservoir. The effect of contaminated Shahpura Lake on ground water environment, Bhopal. MP
Under the World Bank Aided Hydrology Project Phase II, Purpose Driven Study was taken up for developing a user friendly monitoring technique to support the water sector planner and administrators to protect water bodies and provide potable quality of ground water abstracted from its fringe area. Main objective is to study the ingress of sewage contaminated lake water into ground water and to tie up the Limnological data with ground water quality. Collection of sample was initiated from May 2010 to October 2012 from ground water located at upstream and downstream of water body, and lake water samples at different locations coordinating the groundwater sites. Water quality parameters mainly nutrients, organic matter along with Limnological observation viz. Phytoplankton/Zooplankton and benthos density and diversity, chlorophyll estimation, sediment analysis, status fisheries, macrophytic diversity and GIS mapping were carried out for better management plan and DPR preparation. The complete data analyzed using Prati and BMWP indexing by the ground WQ Laboratory Bhopal and compiled in this document carried till October 2012. Click Here to Download 3MB

Downstream consequences of groundwater development at Verna Industrial Estate and water resources management.
Objective: Many of the industries in Goa are located on narrow plateaus where they generally obtain water supplies from boreholes into underlying aquifers. Groundwater resources are becoming stretched due to industrial and population growth and there are concerns amongst villagers and farmers living in the surrounding plains that local wells, springs and tanks are being affected by this industrial pumping. One such area is about 22km south of Panaji on the Verna Plateau with an industrial hub covering some 7km2 which gets most of its water from boreholes within the plateau area although some is brought in from surrounding village wells. Local people believed that this industrial pumping was drying up wells and springs and the three-year PDS was undertaken to; Evaluate the impacts of the industrial pumping on the plateau on water sources within the surrounding area; Establish baseline information on the water quality of the various aquifers and their suitability for potable water supply and irrigation; and Undertake pilot studies on rainwater harvesting and artificial recharge of groundwater.
